You might say that Don was born to be in radio, following in the footsteps of both his grandfather, Percy, an early radio pioneer and evangelist, and his father, Don Sr., also a successful radio entrepreneur. But as a youth, Don expressed more interest in becoming a veterinarian than going into the Crawford family business. As an undergraduate, however, after working at a variety of jobs including waiter, ski instructor and pub bouncer, his very first internship, at KAAM (he was just 20 years old) converted, and sealed the deal for him.
He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Communications from USC, then headed into sales, starting at KBRT in Costa Mesa, CA. By His grace and Don’s diligence, he worked his way through the ranks to eventually oversee 13 stations as Regional Manager. In 2005, Don decided it was time to go out on his own, combining his education, his experience, and lessons learned from his entrepreneurial family into something uniquely his own. That something was KAAM. He moved to Dallas in 2006, an act he considers to be one of the most rewarding things he has ever done.
Along the way, he has acquired additional stations in other states, even though he considers Texas his home. The key to his success is a keen understanding of the strategies and ideas necessary to make KAAM’s partners significant profit while developing long-lasting relationships built on mutual respect and trust.
In his spare time, Don enjoys attending sporting events, working out, exploring wine and spending time with his fiancée.
